Poll: Do you support raising the TV licence fee to €175?

RTÉ has called for the fee to be raised.

THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE of RTÉ Dee Forbes has called for the TV licence fee to be increased to €175.

Speaking in front of an Oireachtas Committee, Forbes said ”uncertainty” around the TV licence fee – which is currently €160 – is making it impossible for the state broadcaster to plan ahead.

Forbes said that the fee hadn’t been raised in a decade, unlike almost every other public or private or public utility.

She also said that the State broadcaster is reliant on the fee for over 50% of its funding, and said that uncertainty around the fee made it “impossible” to RTÉ to plan far into the future.

There is an evasion rate currently of about 13% from households paying the existing fee of €160. It was announced in May that a private firm was to be hired to chase evaders.

So, what do you think?

Today we’re asking: Do you support raising the TV licence fee to €175?
